Number Sequences Practice
Free · no sign-up · unlimited new questions
In a number sequence you see a series of numbers and have to find the next one. There is always a rule behind it, and your job is to spot it. On IQ-Fun the sequences are generated by an algorithm, so you never get the same question twice, and after every answer you see a short explanation of the rule.
Practice number sequences now › Mensa simulationHow it works
- Easy: constant steps (+3, −4), doubling, or steps that grow at a steady rate.
- Medium: Fibonacci-style sequences (each number is the sum of the two before it), square numbers, two interleaved sequences, or alternating operations.
- Hard: mixed operations, polynomials, prime numbers, powers and nested patterns.
- You choose from four answers. Guessing is allowed — there are no penalty points.
Sample question
Which number comes next?
12, 13, 15, 18, 22, ?
- 44
- 28
- 40
- 27
Show solution
27 — Differences grow by 1 each time: 1, 2, 3, 4. Next difference: 5, so 22 + 5 = 27.

Tips
- Write down the differences between neighboring numbers. If the differences form a sequence of their own, you have often found the rule.
- Check whether every second number belongs together — if so, two sequences are interleaved.
- If the numbers grow quickly, think of multiplication, squares or powers.
Relevance for IQ and Mensa tests
Number sequences are a classic part of intelligence tests. Similar questions appear in many IQ tests and aptitude tests.
Frequently asked questions
How many number sequences can I practice?
As many as you like. Every question is newly generated, so you can play as many rounds as you want — free and without signing up.
Do I get the solution explained?
Yes. After each answer you see the correct solution and the rule behind it, whether you were right or wrong.
