An analogy takes the form "hot is to cold as wet is to ?". You identify the relationship in the first word pair and apply it to the second. The questions on IQ-Fun use different kinds of relationships, for example opposites, words with the same meaning, part and whole, or an object and its function.
Practice word analogies now › Mensa simulationHow it works
- First work out how the first two words are connected.
- Put the relationship into a sentence, such as "is the opposite of" or "is part of".
- Plug the third word into the same sentence and test every answer.
- On higher levels the relationships become subtler and the wrong answers fit the topic more closely.

Tips
- Watch the part of speech: if the first pair is made of adjectives, the answer is usually an adjective too.
- An answer that only "sort of belongs" is often a trap. The relationship has to be exactly the same.
